Laurence Gonzales Ramos

TRAINING: National Ballet School of Havana, Cuba, Laura Alonso, Fernando Alonso, and Ramona de Saa.

FEATURED CBC ROLES: Nutcracker Prince, Russian, Arabian - The Nutcracker, Crocodile - Peter Pan, Juanita y Alicia.

When I'm not working I enjoy... Going to the movies, being outdoors, and even being lazy sometimes.

I love San Diego because... The weather is beautiful.

What ballet or role would you like to dance (and why), but haven't yet?: Solor from La Bayadere is one of my favorite ballet roles, because it challenges the dancer technically and artistically in every way.  Albrecht from Giselle, is also one of the most desired roles to perform for many male dancers. I love its dramaticism and technical challenges every time I see it.

If I weren't a dancer, I'd be: I don't really know, but I'm sure it would be something with the arts and creativity.

What is your favorite costume? Why? The Russian dance costumes from The Nutcracker because they are really comfortable and it goes with the style.

What can always make you laugh? Being spastic during the rehearsal process.

What's your perfect day? When my body is sore after a long day of rehearsal, but I still smile. I love what I do.

What has been your most memorable moment as a dancer? I haven't really had a single significant moment yet in my career —hoping for new opportunities and memorable experiences to come.

What is the hardest part about being a dancer? To keep a positive mindset when something is not working.

Fun to know: Laurence is also a Dance Chorus member with the San Diego Opera, and brother to Lester.
