Oscar Burciaga has a BFA degree in Mexican Folklore and Modern Dance from the Universidad de Colima, Mexico.  He has toured Mexico, Europe, and the United States extensively with the Ballet Folklorico de la Universidad de Colima for six years under the direction of Rafael Zamarripa, earning dancer of the year in 1999.  Teaching Mexican Folklore for International Mariachi Conferences throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, Mr. Burciaga has been fortunate in working with some of world’s greatest mariachi ensembles such as Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Los Camperos de Nati Cano, and Mariachi Cobre.  In San Diego, Mr. Burciaga has appeared as a dancer in the San Diego Opera’s productions of La Traviata in 2004, and Die Fledermaus in 2005.

He joined the California Ballet Company in 2002, and was promoted to Soloist in 2006.  He has been featured in numerous roles with the company, including Spanish Serenade, Pio Pico in Legend of Josefa, the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, For Flora, the lead in Valse Triste, the wolf in Sleeping Beauty, Gurney, lead Mazurka and Czardas in Coppelia, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, ugly stepsister in Cinderella, Herr Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker, and Dr. John Seward in Charles Bennett’s Dracula.  He received the Dancer of the Year Award in 2006.

Mr. Burciaga is the Production Manager for the CBC and is active in education and outreach programs. He is an instructor for the California Ballet School as well as other local ballet schools.
