A native of San Diego, Bernadette Torres began her training at the Ballet Conservatory in Chula Vista at the age of six and continued training at the San Diego School of Ballet and the San Diego Academy of Ballet. She attended several summer intensive programs, most notably American Ballet Theatre in New York, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Houston Ballet (where she was offered a year-round scholarship), and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Ms. Torres has also trained in modern and contemporary dance at her summer intensive programs and at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, San Diego Dance Theatre, and Malashock Dance.

Ms. Torres has performed leading roles with numerous professional dance companies (ballet/contemporary/modern). She competed in the Youth America Grand Prix Finals-New York (2006) and the World Ballet Competition-Orlando (2007 and 2008). In summer 2010, Bernadette performed as a guest in the Labat Loano Danza Festival Gala in Italy and received the Riconoscimento al Talento award. In the summer of 2011, Ms. Torres was invited to perform in the Top Danza Costa D'Amalfi Gala and again at the Labat Loano Danza Festival Gala, both in Italy where she was awarded the Riconoscimento alla Carriera. In April 2011, choreographer Lorin Johnson (of ABT) created an original contemporary piece, Ink Blot, on Ms. Torres and two other dancers to perform at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts. In May 2011, choreographer Greg Sample (of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago) created an original contemporary duet, Crash, on her and Carlo Di Dio (fellow CBC Principal).

Ms. Torres joined California Ballet Company in September 2010 as a Soloist, and was promoted to Principal in June 2011. During the 2010/2011 season she danced the featured roles of Snow Queen, Dewdrop, and Lead Arabian (The Nutcracker); the Waltz (Les Sylphides); Medora (Le Corsaire); Lilac Fairy (Sleeping Beauty); and Principal Soloist (Romanian Rhapsody).
